The Refugee Law Center needs your support!

The Refugee Law Center is a non-profit non-governmental organization working to protect and strengthen the rights of refugees and immigrants. Among other things, in the last several years we have:
  1. Provided representation to numerous asylum seekers and safe haven seekers from countries including: Algeria, Ethiopia, Haiti, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, South Africa, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda -- all of those whom have had their asylum interviews or hearings completed, or their claims otherwise adjudicated, have been successful in that they have been granted asylum, permanent resident status or naturalization.

  2.
  3. Printed and distributed two books. The first, Law of Asylum In the United States written by Deborah Anker (co-founder and co-director of RLC) has been described as “THE authoritative and comprehensive single-volume source on US asylum law.” by Carolyn Patty Blum, Director of the International Human Rights Law Clinic & Lecturer on Law at Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley. The second is Gender Asylum Law in Different Countries - Decisions and Guidelines.

  4.
  5. Recently re-engineered, the Refugee Law Center’s web site, making it significantly more user friendly and useful to asylum and immigration law practitioners, but also asylees/refugees, health professionals and other human rights activists.

  6.
  7. Updated our data base of gender asylum claims and decisions form the United States and other countries. To date, we are tracking monitoring and advising in over 300 cases.

  8.
  9. Written numerous Amicus Curie (friend of the court) briefs in support of appeals before U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals, the Board of Immigration Appeals and the U.S. Attorney General on issues involving women and gender related asylum claims. These amicus briefs have been submitted in collaboration with numerous other local and national immigrant and human rights organizations.

  10.
  11. Compiled and distributed annotated indexes of country conditions documentation compiled to document and support of asylum claims.

  12.
  13. Launched a data base of experts and areas of expertise for use by practitioners.

  14.
  15. Recently launched a new initiative in collaboration with Partners in Health, the Program on Health, with the goal of and providing research, medical and anthropoligical/sociological analysis, legal analysis, representation and backup for persons seeking asylum and other forms of immigration status on the basis of their medical condition or the human rights violations they will suffer should they be forcibly removed to another country, particularly for those seeking refugee protection in the United States.
  16. In order to continue our work of fulfilling our mission by building on the above listed and other achievements, the Refugee Law Center relies heavily on private donations. As the Refugee Law Center is a 501(c)(3), all donations are tax-deductible and very much appreciated. Donations should be mailed with the attached form to:
