Under this program, advocacy and representation is provided for claims involving applications for asylum, withholding of removal and protection under article III of the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment with a special emphasis on representing women, children, activists and refugees with medical conditions who will suffer human rights violations should they be facibly removed to another country.
Representation is provided for applications filed with the Asylum Office, filed before Immigration Judges or on appeal before the Board of Immigration Appeals.
Advocacy and representation is also provided on a limited basis to refugees/immigrants on issues involving family reunification, safe haven and cancellation of removal.
At this time, representation is being focused on applicants from Algeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Liberia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda
